Wine Advocate, Dec 2004: "An internationally-styled Chateauneuf du Pape, this 2003 exhibits abundant quantities of toasty new oak (not yet totally integrated). There is plenty of generosity and texture on the palate, but the oak is slightly shocking at this stage of development. However, the wine possesses pure red and black fruits as well as medium to full body, and if the oak becomes more incorporated, it will justify a score above the mid-eighties. It should drink well for 8-10 years."

Very spicy on the nose, predominantly anise, cola and birch beer, over dark blackberry jam and blueberry notes with a touch of black pepper. The cola and blackberries dominate the palate, but are accompanied by good acidity. Nicely balanced, with a touch of leather on the finish."
