2002 Pavie Bordeaux Blend 750ml - ON SALE $109.99 (reg $119.99)
Wine Advocate, Jan 2005, 94 points: "While not as legendary as Pavie's 2003, 2001, 2000, 1999, or 1998, the 2002 is one of the top wines of the vintage. Its deep plum/ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of fruitcake, cranberries, cherry liqueur, crushed rocks, and subtle oak. Savory, full-bodied, remarkably concentrated, layered, and forward for a Pavie, it should be accessible in 3-4 years, and will evolve effortlessly for two decades."
2002 Cheval Blanc Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $189.99
Wine Spectator, Mar 2005, 92 points: "Fantastic aromas of black licorice and sweet tobacco change to raspberries and follow through to a full-bodied palate, with lovely silky tannins and a long, caressing finish. Multilayered. A beauty. Best after 2008. 3,330 cases made. –JS"
2002 Cos d'Estournel Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $83.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2005, 93 points: "One of the candidates for wine of the vintage, this beauty has a dense purple color to the rim and a classic, noble nose of graphite intermixed with black currant, spice box, licorice, and red and black fruits...A brilliant effort.."
2002 Ducru Beaucaillou Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $47.99
Wine Spectator, Jun 2003, 89-91 points: "Very attractive aromas of fresh berries, raspberries and cherries. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a medium, refined finish. Lots of finesse. Score range: 89-91 –JS"
2002 Monbousquet Bordeaux Blend 750ml - ON SALE $38.99 (reg $39.99)
Wine Advocate, Apr 2005, 90 points: "A strong performance in a difficult vintage, the 2002 Monbousquet (60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc) reveals abundant aromas of espresso, sweet black currants and cherries, damp earth, compost, and new oak. It is a medium to full-bodied, fleshy offering with light tannin as well as a long finish. Drink it over the next 10-12 years. This is the home estate of Chantal and Gerard Perse, who have become the poster children for owners taking a less hallowed terroir and producing sumptuous, high quality wine. Readers should realize that Monbousquet is not meant to be cellared for 20-30 years. It is a beautifully made wine that has performed well in every blind tasting I have conducted, often out-scoring far more hallowed as well as expensive wines."
2002 Canon la Gaffeliere Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $46.99
Wine Spectator, Mar 2005, 91 points: "Attractive aromas of Indian spices, red berries and pressed flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins. It builds on your palate. Very well-made for the vintage. Best after 2007. 3,000 cases made. –JS"
2002 Troplong-Mondot Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $43.99
Wine Spectator, Mar 2005, 91 points: "Attractive berry, sweet tobacco and olive aromas follow through to a full-bodied palate, with silky, tight tannins and a long, refined finish. Pretty. Best after 2008. 5,165 cases made. –JS"
2002 La Confession Bordeaux Blend 750ml - ON SALE $32.99 (reg $35.99)
Wine Advocate, Apr 2005, 90 points: "...reveals aromas and flavors of charcoal, black currants, sweet cherries, and licorice. Medium-bodied, powerful, pure, and moderately tannic, it should be drinkable between 2008-2017."
2002 Chapelle de la Mission Haut Brion, La Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $29.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2005, 86 points: "This elegant, medium-bodied offering exhibits smoky, earthy notes along with hints of figs and plums, medium body, and a short finish. Drink it over the next 6-8 years."
2002 Moulin St Georges Bordeaux Blend 750ml - ON SALE $29.99 (reg $32.99)
Wine Spectator, Mar 2005, 90 points: "Gorgeous, subtle aromas of crushed berries, Indian spices and cherries. Full-bodied, with rich and silky tannins and a long, luscious finish. Beauty. Velvety. Hard to believe, but I like it better than the 2000. Best after 2006. 2,830 cases made. –JS"
2002 Clerc Milon Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $34.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2005, 90 points: "Cedar, burning embers, licorice, black currants, and espresso notes jump from the glass...firm, tannic, powerful, and muscular style of Clerc-Milon. Quite virile, a bit angular, but at the same time packed and stacked, full and concentrated, this impressive blend..."
2002 Haut Bages Liberal Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $24.99
Wine Spectator, Mar 2005, 89 points: "Aromas and flavors of blackberries, tobacco and cedar follow through to a medium-bodied palate, with silky tannins and a soft finish. Not a big wine but nicely balanced. Best after 2007. 12,250 cases made. –JS"
2002 Larcis-Ducasse Bordeaux Blend 750ml - ON SALE $34.99 (reg $39.99)
Wine Spectator, Mar 2005, 92 points: "Aromas of plum tart and vanilla with hints of wild forest fruits. Full-bodied, with lovely silky tannins and bright fruit. Pretty wine. This is the first year that Nicholas Thienpont and Stéphane Derenoncourt took over, and it shows. Serious stuff here. Excellent length. One of the surprises of the vintage. Best after 2008. –JS"
2002 Mission Haut Brion, La Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $74.99
Stephen Tanzer, Jun 2005, 91 points: "($72-$90) Bright ruby-red. Sexy aromas of black raspberry, smoked meat and warm stones. Dry, classic and deep, but quite closed today, even a bit youthfully austere. Finishes very long, with substantial dusty tannins and brisk acids. Much more backward today than the Haut-Brion, despite possessing a lower indice de polyphenols totaux (65, compared to 70). But both of these wines really call for at least six or seven years of cellaring. 91(+?) points"
