Wine Spectator, Oct 2005, 95 points: "The scent of chanterelles sautéing in butter leads into a racy dessert white sporting orange marmalade, dried pear and quince notes that just won't quit. Great balance and expressive, with a mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2025. 128 cases made. (BS)"
FRANCE - BORDEAUX
1996 Bastor-Lamontagne Sauternes Blend 375ml - $17.99 (reg $24.99)
Wine Advocate, Jan 1999, 87 points: "This wine is made in a light style with a little fat, as well as the tell-tale apricot/pineapple and lanolin characteristics of Semillon (which dominates the blend). Medium-bodied and refreshing, this mid-weight Sauternes is easily appreciated. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2012."
1989 De Suduiraut Creme de Tete Sauternes Blend 375ml - $174.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 1991, 96 points: "...fabulously concentrated, with an unctuous texture, and what must be nearly 14-15% natural alcohol, this mammoth-sized Sauternes should prove to be one of the monumental efforts of the vintage..."
2003 Lafaurie-Peyraguey Sauternes Blend 375ml - $27.99 (reg $32.99)
Wine Spectator, Mar 2006, 97 points: "Very, very intense aromas of dried apricot and lemon. Honey, syrup and Golden Delicious. Full-bodied, viscous and very sweet. Pour it on pancakes. Love it. And drink it. Who can wait? Best after 2010. 6,250 cases made."
2003 Rieussec Sauternes Blend 375ml - $29.99 (reg $35.99)

1990 Yquem, Chateau d' Sauternes Blend 375ml - $289.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 1999, 99 points: "...An extraordinary effort, Yquem's 1990 is a rich and fabulously superb, sweet wine...elegance and finesse. The wine's medium gold color is accompanied by an exceptionally sweet nose of honeyed tropical fruits, peaches, coconut, and apricots. High quality, subtle toasty oak is well-integrated. The wine is massive on the palate, with layers of intensely ripe botrytis-tinged, exceptionally sweet fruit. Surprisingly well-integrated acidity, and a seamless, full-bodied power and richness have created a wine of remarkable harmony and purity....An awesome Yquem!..."
2002 Yquem, Chateau d' Sauternes Blend 375ml - $108.99
Wine Spectator, Jul 2006, 96 points: "Beautiful apple, vanilla and honey aromas, with just the right amount of new wood. Full-bodied, medium sweet, with lots of pretty pineapple, honey and new wood. Long and refined. A beautifully silky and balanced Sauternes. Lots of intensity and well-knit. Nothing comes close in this vintage. Best after 2009. (JS)"
FRANCE - BURGUNDY
2005 Bouchard Pere et Fils Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 375ml - $59.99 (reg $69.99)
Burghound, Jul 2007, 95 points: "An expressive and highly interesting nose of cool and fresh green apple surrounded by freshly baked brioche aromas leads to big, rich and sleekly muscled flavors that are quite ripe yet there is a very firm acid backbone that maintains outstanding focus on the almost painfully intense mineral-infused finish. This is a 'wow' wine that cedes nothing to the Montrachet in terms of power and weight."
2005 Girardin, Vincent Puligny Montrachet Vieilles Vignes Chardonnay 375ml - $17.99 (reg $19.99)
2005 Michel, Domaine Louis Chablis Montmain Premier Cru Chardonnay 375ml - $13.99 (reg $15.99)
Wine Spectator, Jan 2007, 90 points: "Fresh and lively, with melon, lemon, white peach and mineral flavors balanced by the smooth texture and bright acidity. Has fine dimension and harmony, followed by a long aftertaste. Drink now through 2018. 500 cases imported. BS"
2004 Sauzet, Domaine Etienne Puligny Montrachet Hameau de Blagny Premier Cru Chardonnay 375ml - $37.99
Stephen Tanzer, Sep 2006, 89 points: "($89; bottled in March of this year, with the rest of the Sauzet crus) Flowers, sweet butter and truffle on the nose, along with a slightly muscaty suggestion of menthol. Dense but quite dry, even a bit spiky, with lively lemony acidity. Very much an uphill wine. Finishes quite pure, with sneaky length."
FRANCE - CHAMPAGNE
1997 Laurent-Perrier Brut Champagne Blend 375ml - $20.99
Wine Spectator, Nov 2006, 90 points: "Rich and velvety, offering lemon pie and mineral notes, with shadings of toast and coffee. Not very concentrated, yet well-balanced and crisp on the finish. Drink now through 2012."
FRANCE - RHONE
1998 Chapoutier Hermitage Vin de Paille Marsanne 375ml - $99.99
Wine Advocate, Oct 1999, 96 - 98 points: "Nectar lovers will be amazed by the richness of this wine...a texture resembling molasses. Despite being aged in 100% new oak, no wood is discernible. Its astonishing white truffle-scented nose includes notions of coffee, marmalade, and creme brulee. Extraordinarily dense and thick, with surprisingly good underlying acidity, this is a remarkable wine..."
2004 Domaine de Beaurenard Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Classique Proprietary Blend 375ml - $18.99 (reg $19.99)
Wine Spectator, Aug 2006, 90 points: "Lovely pure beam of red currant and red cherry fruit supported by hot stone and mineral notes. Hint of tobacco on the minerally finish. Should flesh out nicely in the near-term. Best from 2007 through 2017. 6,665 cases made. JM"
ITALY - PIEDMONT
2003 Fantino Conterno Barolo Sori Ginestra Nebbiolo 375ml - $38.99 (reg $39.99)
Wine Advocate, Jan 2006, 88 - 91 points: "2003 Barolo Sori Ginestra - Sori Ginestra offers a darker, richer nose, with a more layered profile of spice, mineral, licorice and sweet dark fruit flavors, with big, massive tannins. Comes across as disjointed today, but if the tannins integrate, the score could go up. This Barolo clearly shows the effect the super-hot, dry climate had on well-exposed vines. (88-91), 11/05 Guido Fantino and Claudio Conterno build on the success of their outstanding 2001s with these 2003 and 2004 Barolos. The estate has recently leased a parcel in the Mosconi cru, a south-facing plot best known as the source of Domenico Clerico's Barolo Percristina. In 2003 the Mosconi fruit went into the superb 2003 Monpra (which I review in the next section) but in 2004 it will be bottled as the estate's third single-vineyard wine, replacing the Barolo Parussi that is no longer being produced."
PORTUGAL - DOURO
2003 Churchill's Vintage Porto 375ml - $26.99 (reg $39.99)
Wine Spectator, Apr 2006, 90 points: "Peppery aromas, with lots of crushed berries. Medium- to full-bodied, with light sweetness and a soft, round tannic structure. Not on the same level as the fabulous 2000. Best after 2010. 3,000 cases made. JS"
2003 Dow Vintage Port 375ml - $26.99 (reg $31.99)
Wine Advocate, Oct 2005, 94 points: "The complex aromatics of the opaque, black-colored 2003 Dow Vintage Port display chocolate, dried oak, black cherries, blackberries, copious spices, and a myriad flowers. This fresh, backward wine offers a medium to full-bodied, deeply concentrated core of spice-laced dark fruits. Softly-textured and seductive in the mid-palate, it boasts abundant layers of candied Damson plums, blueberries, black cherries, molasses, and hints of chocolate before revealing its firm structure. Extremely youthful and primary, this exceptional effort demands patience. Projected maturity: 2025-2045+."
USA - CALIFORNIA
2003 Bonny Doon Cardinal Zin Zinfandel 375ml - $6.99 (reg $9.99)
Wine Enthusiast, Oct 2005, 85 points: "Smells sharp and raw, and tastes young and fresh, a juvenile wine with hard acids and primary, grapy flavors. Finishes dry and tart."
1999 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon Estate 375ml - $57.99
Wine Advocate, Aug 2002, 95 points: "...extraordinary density of fruit and cassis, and huge tannin, body, and extract. It is a substantial, palate-staining, long, muscular Cabernet that should only be purchased by connoisseurs with cold cellars as well as patience..."
2005 Justin Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 375ml - $10.99
JJ Buckley, Aug 2007, 88 points: "Dark core, similar to the '04, but with brighter purple in the rim. Dark fruits on the nose. Dusty and rich, with blackberry, black cherry, sweet tea and a touch of earthy aromas. The dark fruits continue onto the palate, with rich blueberry joining the mix. Medium-bodied, with big tannins. Rich, with a touch of sweet vanilla oak. Dark fruit finish; finishes a bit shorter than the '04."
2005 Longoria Pinot Noir Fe Ciega Vineyard 375ml - $21.99 (reg $25.99)
Wine Enthusiast, Apr 2007, 95 points: "You'd never guess the power from the pale color. A multi-clone blend, it impresses from the first sniff, all puréed ripe cherries and strawberries, leading to a dramatically fruited, fresh, pure and vibrant mouthfeel. Should hold and improve for a decade."
