2004 Leoville Barton - Famous Second Growth

2004 Chateau Leoville-Barton - only $51.99

Located in St. Julien, Chateau Leoville-Barton is one of the original classified Second Growths from the official Bordeaux classification of 1855 and has consistently been a highly rated, sought after wine that, for its caliber, is very reasonably priced. Of Leoville-Barton, Robert Parker has said that "one cannot admire enough proprietor Anthony Barton and his classic, potentially long-lived wines that are models of power, elegance, and longevity – in short, these wines symbolize what makes Bordeaux so world-renowned!"

Leoville-Barton succeeded in producing one of the biggest and densest wines from St. Julien in the underrated and overlooked 2004 vintage. Stuck between the two great vintages of 2003 and 2005, wines from 2004 have consequently not been given the attention they deserve. There are some great offerings from the vintage that are very expressive of their terroir and exhibit finesse and elegance, all the while costing much less. Leoville-Barton's wines have always had huge aging potential, and the 2004 is no exception. Parker believes that it comes close to equaling the 2000, which he rated 96 points. Obviously, this is a stunning wine and one that shouldn't be sitting in our warehouse but on your table.

Chateau Leoville-Barton is one of the best producers in Bordeaux and for this price, it is a spectacular value.

FRANCE - BORDEAUX

2004 Leoville-Barton Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $51.99
Wine Advocate, Jun 2007, 92 points: "This is an impressively endowed vin de garde that should age effortlessly for 20-30 years. How Anthony Barton continues to fashion uncompromisingly primordial Bordeaux that are always among the biggest and densest of all the St.-Juliens is beyond me, but he does it year in and year out. Moreover, when it's time to set the price, he appears to have the consumer foremost in his mind. The 2004 is a classic Leoville-Barton meant for long aging. Concentrated, with loads of smoke, creme de cassis, forest floor, and earthy notes emerge from this impressive, but oh, so backward wine. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030+."
Wine Spectator, Mar 2007, 91 points: "Currant and dark chocolate, with hints of mineral. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, caressing finish. Balanced. A more delicate and refined style. Best after 2011. 21,250 cases made. –JS"
