ARGENTINA - MENDOZA

2005 Septima Tempranillo 750ml - $9.99
JJ Buckley, Aug 2007: "Nice intense dark red core with a ruby rim. Grapey with nice red cassis and blackberry aromas surrounded by a touch of toasted oak and a hint of black truffle. Fruity on the front of the palate with nice spices and ripe tannins supporting the wine. Spicy cherry and cedar with good length on the finish."

AUSTRALIA - SOUTH AUSTRALIA

2004 Kilikanoon Grenache / Shiraz Killerman's Run Proprietary Blend 750ml - $13.99
Wine Advocate, Oct 2006, 92 points: "This beauty reminded me of one of the Wine Advocate's great value picks from the late 1970s ... Chateau Souverain's 1974 Vintage Selection. Just as sexy and opulent, but made from a completely different blend, the 2004 Killerman's Run Shiraz/Grenache (60% of the former and 40% of the latter) comes from older vineyards in the Clare, Barossa, and Baroota valleys. This is a voluptuous Aussie red offering loads of cassis and black raspberry fruit along with small quantities of pepper and roasted Provencal herbs, and an opulent, full-throttle, beautifully pure, layered, impressively endowed style. Drink it over the next 3-4 years."

2006 Kilikanoon Riesling Morts Reserve 750ml - $24.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2006, 91 points: "The 2006 Riesling Mort's Reserve was closed and difficult to access, but it exhibited impressive early potential with steely green apple and grapefruit notes intermixed with stone fruits, and presented in a dry, austere style. Importer: Peter Weygandt, Weygandt-Metzler, Unionville, PA; tel. (610) 486-0800"

2003 Loan Semillon 750ml - $16.99
Wine Advocate, Oct 2005, 88 points: "Waxy, earthy, honey, citrusy aromas jump from the glass of the light gold-colored 2003 Semillon. The waxy component continues on the palate along with Semillon's tell-tale lanolin character. It is a textured, heady white that may be controversial given its distinctive earthy character."

2004 Rusden Driftsand Proprietary Blend 750ml - $26.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2006, 90 points: "The dark ruby/purple-tinged 2004 Driftsand Red Blend (70% Grenache, 15% Mataro, and 15% Shiraz) was aged in neutral old French wood. It reveals a Mediterranean, Cotes du Rhone-like bouquet of roasted herbs, garrigue, spice box, pepper, sweet cherries, and hints of plums and figs. This tasty, fruity, dense beauty can be enjoyed over the next 3-4 years. If you haven't yet noticed, Christian Canute is one of Australia's finest young mavericks. At the ripe old age of 28, he's doing work that suggests someone with twice as much experience.Importer: Dan Philips, The Grateful Palate, Oxnard, CA; tel. (888) 472-5283"

AUSTRALIA - SOUTHEAST AUSTRALIA

2005 Rosemount Traminer / Riesling Proprietary Blend 750ml - $6.99
Wine Spectator, Jun 2006, 87 points: "A charming wine brimming with rose petal, carnation and white peach flavors, finishing dry. Drink now. 25,000 cases imported. -HS"

AUSTRALIA - VICTORIA

2005 Taltarni Sauvignon Blanc 750ml - $9.99
Stephen Tanzer, Jul 2006, 88 points: "($16) Pale straw. Subtle aromas of lime, peach and honeysuckle; nothing grassy or herbal going on here. A juicy but fleshy sauvignon with ripe citrus and quince flavors and a gentle finishing impression of talc. Those averse to pungently herbal or peppery sauvignon must try this."

CHILE - RAPEL VALLEY

2006 Cono Sur Pinot Noir Vision 750ml - $12.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2007, 89 points: "No tasting note was given."
JJ Buckley, Aug 2007: "Bright, vibrant color in the glass. Very fruit forward aromas of raspberry, red cherries, red cassis and a hint of strawberry are brought together by a touch of scorched oak. Underneath is an intriguing bold aroma of rich blood oranges. Very nice mouthfeel - medium-bodied with great acidity from the front to the back. The raspberry and strawberry aromas are matched on the palate, yet the fruit stays in balance due to the lively acidity. This has a very nice lingering mouth-watering finish, that just screams for food!"

FRANCE - ALSACE

2002 Sparr, Pierre Riesling Mambourg Grand Cru 750ml - $27.99
Wine Spectator, Oct 2005, 91 points: "Fine balance here between the rich peach, apple and mineral flavors and vibrant structure. This is muscular and intense, with the potential to develop well over time. Firm, tight finish, with a mineral aftertaste. Needs food. Drink now through 2015. 400 cases made. -BS"

FRANCE - BORDEAUX

2004 Beaulieu Comtes de Tastes Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $13.99
Wine Advocate, Jun 2006, 87 - 88 points: "Made primarily from Merlot, the deep ruby/purple-tinged 2004 displays sweet, elegant notes of blueberries, black cherries, cedar, and spice box. Medium-bodied with surprising richness and purity as well as impressive equilibrium, this well-made Bordeaux Superieur can compete with some classified growths."

2000 Clos des Lunelles Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $17.99
JJ Buckley, Jul 2007: "Shows a light brick hue with a distinctly lighter rim. It offers an expansive nose of dried fruits, blackberry, fig. An understated aroma of stewed tomatoes arises with a little time in the glass. Ripe style with a lot of acidity and very light tannin. The midpalate is medium bodied with a woody undertone defined by cedar and spices. The strong finish lingers. Great food wine."

2001 Marbuzet Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $27.99
Wine Spectator, Mar 2004, 88 points: "Plenty of violet, berry and vanilla in this red. Medium- to full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a licorice aftertaste. I like this as much as the 2000. Best after 2006."
JJ Buckley, May 2002: "Dark purple and maroon in the core surrounded by a bright maroon rim edged with brick highlights. The nose is full and rich with roasted coffee, toasted oak and light peat coming over the top of bold dark rich cherries and raspberries, followed by a hint of dusty minerality. The wine enters the palate with a nice bold feel. Strong acids support a nice core of fruit. Dark cherry and plum are surrounded by toasty vanilla and earth, leading to a medium finish accented by notes of nickel."

2003 Vrai Canon Bouche Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $17.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2004, 88 - 90 points: "This noble effort, displaying terrific purity, power, and richness, provides further evidence that Canon-Fronsac's cool terroirs were beneficial in the torridly hot, dry summer of 2003. An inky/ruby/purple color accompanies aromas of violets, blueberries, and crushed stones. Powerful, rich, and generous, this sleeper of the vintage should be at its finest between 2006-2014."

FRANCE - BURGUNDY

2003 Louis Jadot St Aubin Chardonnay 750ml - $25.99
JJ Buckley, Aug 2007: "Full golden hues. Toasted oak, vanilla and cream dominate over light pear and golden delicious apple. Oaky on the palate and fairly bright and new world in style with rich, round creamy fruit."

FRANCE - LANGUEDOC ROUSSILLON

2003 Angayrac, Domaine d' Costieres de Nimes Proprietary Blend 750ml - $7.99
JJ Buckley, Jul 2007: "Dark ruby color with slightly lighter rim. Crushed earth, asparagus, and sage show through the nose. Somewhat austere mid-palate. Old world in style, displaying good length, qualifying as a good food wine."

FRANCE - LOIRE VALLEY

2004 Remy Pannier Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 750ml - $19.99
JJ Buckley, Aug 2007: "From Chavignol in the Loire Valley of France. Color is light gold with a nose of spicy Grapefruit and mineral. This is not a grassy styled Sauvignon Blanc wine; rather it shows the juicy citrus lemon and grapefruit and quince fruit characteristics that are easier to drink. There are seashell minerals and a smokey flinty nose similar to the other great wines of the Loire valley."

FRANCE - RHONE

2004 Perrin Gigondas la Gille Proprietary Blend 750ml - $21.99
Wine Advocate, Feb 2007, 89 points: "Perrin et Fils also produces two cuvees of Gigondas. Their basic cuvee, which is close to 100% Grenache aged in both tank and foudre, is called La Gille. The 2004 Perrin et Fils Gigondas La Gille is outstanding and certainly a top performance in this vintage. Lovely sweet cherry, white flower, and crushed rock notes make an appearance in this wine where everything is in balance. It is not a big wine, but rather restrained, finesse-styled, and impeccably pure and harmonious. Drink it over the next 5-6 years."

ITALY - APULIA

2002 Tormaresca Bocca di Lupo Proprietary Blend 750ml - $24.99
Wine Spectator, Jan 2006, 87 points: "Nice nose, with spicy berry, licorice and floral, mineral notes. Full-bodied, with firm and chewy tannins and a long finish. Slightly hollow midpalate but very good. Drink now. 3,000 cases made. -JS"

ITALY - SICILY

2004 Baglio di Pianetto Piana del Ginolfo Viognier 750ml - $19.99
Wine Spectator, Apr 2007, 87 points: "Interesting aromas of coconut and lemon, with peach underneath. Full-bodied, with fresh acidity and a long, flavorful finish. The first vintage of this wine, made by Veneto's Fausto Maculan. Drink now. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 110 cases made. -JS"

ITALY - TRENTINO ALTO ADIGE

2006 Torre di Luna Pinot Grigio Pinot Gris 750ml - $8.99
JJ Buckley, Jul 2007: "This simple but pleasant white is very light in color and in body. It has a bright citrus nose and conjures delicate flavors of pear and melon. Crisp and refreshing, this is a perfect wine for a hot summer day."

ITALY - TUSCANY

2003 Melini Chianti Classico Granaio Sangiovese 750ml - $15.99
JJ Buckley, Aug 2007: "Color is red garnet with an edge that shows a slight brickish color. Classic nose of plum and cherry fruit along with perfume of cherry blossom and some creamy oak barrique. Dry and medium-bodied with light to medium tannins, this wine provides pleasure with many cuisines - Chicken Parmesan, and pizza of course. The acidity is the trick that matches well with anything with tomato sauce. Plus there is a touch of that Italian terroir too!"

2003 Toscolo Chianti Sangiovese 750ml - $8.99
Wine Enthusiast, April 2005: "Dark in color, with cherry, leather and lemon to the nose. The palate also tastes of lemon, and there's some plum in there to soften things up..."

ITALY - UMBRIA

2005 Salviano di Titignano Orvieto Classico Proprietary Blend 750ml - $11.63
JJ Buckley, Aug 2007: "From a traditional old world hill-top town comes an old world style wine. Some oxidization gives the wine a nutty characteristic as well as the Old World European grape and apple fruit on the palate, with a touch of stoney peach fruit too. Serve cold as an aperitif with finger food appetizers. A good starter wine to your meal.

NEW ZEALAND - HAWKES BAY

2004 Mills Reef Merlot/Malbec Reserve Proprietary Blend 750ml - $12.99
Wine Enthusiast, Dec 2006, 85 points: "A chunky, soft wine with a strong wood influence, very much in keeping with the winery's style. This 51% Merlot-49% Malbec blend features a smoky, cedary, vanilla-laden bouquet, dark fruit flavors, supple tannins and a smooth finish."

NEW ZEALAND - OTAGO

2006 Wild Rock Cupids Arrow Pinot Noir 750ml - $18.99
JJ Buckley, Jul 2007: "Nice dark maroon core with bright violet notes in the rim. On the nose it is very characteristic Pinot Noir. Fresh brambly red cherry aromas are supported by violet floral notes and hints of charcoal over sweet, spicy dark fruit. The wine enters the palate in a very soft and approachable style, bringing some bold acidity and nice fresh red fruits, leading to a spicy vanilla berry finish."

SPAIN - YECLA

2005 Castano Monastrell Mourvedre 750ml - $6.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2007, 90 points: "The 2005 Monastrell is an insane value produced from three vineyard sites ranging in age from 40-60 years. Opaque purple-colored, it gives up fragrant aromas of blue fruits, plums, and prunes. Ripe, layered, and full-flavored, this hedonistic effort can be enjoyed now but will surely evolve for 2-3 years. Match it with beef and lamb. Importer: Eric Solomon, European Cellars, Charlotte, NC; tel. (704) 358-1565"

USA - CALIFORNIA

2004 Cosentino Winery Merlot Legends 750ml - $19.99
JJ Buckley, Jul 2007: "This medium-bodied merlot has a candied nose with hints of blueberry and cherry. It is slightly sweet on the palate, exhibiting flavors of dark cherry and fresh plum. Boasts medium tannins. Spicy on the finish."

2005 Fusee Merlot 750ml - $6.99
JJ Buckley, Aug 2007: "A fresh young wine with a bright purple ruby color. Perfume of sweet oak and black fruit with a touch of candied bing cherry . Super ripe cherry and black plum fruit on the palate. The wine is plush and lush with light tannins for easy drinking - A real quaffer at this price!

2006 Kunde Estate Sauvignon Blanc Magnolia Lane 750ml - $11.99
Wine Spectator, Aug 2007, 87 points: "Juicy peach, lime, mango and mouthwatering lemonade flavors are ripe and well-balanced, with the core of fruit flavors getting stronger on the finish. Drink now. 18,000 cases made."

2001 Lorraine, Philippe Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml - $19.99
JJ Buckley, Jul 2002: "Thick, inky purple core with a brick rim. Light alcohol aromas over dark fruit with a hint of sawdust. Decent structure and fruit. Fairly complex, with a jammy finish."

2002 Moon Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Franc 750ml - $29.99
JJ Buckley, Aug 2007: "This heavily extracted Cabernet Franc exhibits a dark / dense purple core, with a big up-front nose of blackberry, dry earth, vanilla, and oak. Builds in the mid palate and continues to a long persistent finish defined by its tight tannins. This is a dense Cab Franc from start to finish."

2004 Pessagno Pinot Noir Spring Grove Vineyards 750ml - $29.99
JJ Buckley, Aug 2007: "Very clear in the glass with a bright garnet core surrounded by a reddish brick rim. On the nose fresh blackberry and blueberry fruit aromas are surrounded by smoke, leather and nice black and white pepper spice. In the mouth this is a juicy, medium-bodied wine. Flavors of strawberry and raspberry fruits are again accented by white pepper. Bold acidity keeps the wine fresh on the palate, and nicely ripe tannins give the wine a velvety finish. Very enjoyable."
