2003 Mitolo Shiraz GAM Syrah 750ml - $44.99
Wine Advocate, Oct 2004, 96 - 100 points: "The spectacular, dense ruby/purple-colored 2003 Shiraz G A M...exhibits aromas of lead pencil shavings, blackberries, blueberries, cassis, licorice, new oak, and scorched earth. This complex 2003 comes across as a hypothetical blend of a great La Mission-Haut-Brion from Bordeaux and a Rhone Valley Hermitage such as Chapoutier's Pavillon. Everything is seamlessly integrated into this tour de force in winemaking..."
2002 Torbreck Run Rig Proprietary Blend 750ml - $159.99
Wine Advocate, Oct 2005, 99 points: "The 2002 Run Rig (97% Shiraz and 3% Viognier aged in 100% new French oak) represents the essence of old vine Barossa fruit. Extraordinarily opulent and rich, but playing it closer to the vest than the 2001, it gets my nod as one of the most remarkable wines made in either the Southern or Northern Hemisphere. An inky/purple color is accompanied by a sumptuous bouquet of apricots, honeysuckle, black raspberries, blackberries, licorice, and a hint of roasted meats. The wood has been soaked up by the wine's extraordinary concentration. Fashioned from four sectors of Barossa (Maranaga, Koonunga Hill, Moppa, and Greenock), it spent 30 months in primarily new oak, and was bottled without fining or filtration."

2003 Almaviva Proprietary Blend 750ml - $59.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2007, 95 points: "The 2003 Almaviva is a real blockbuster, powerhouse vintage for this estate. With an inky blue/purple color, a beautiful nose of camphor, charcoal, blueberry, blackberry, and some spicy but subtle new oak, the wine is quite full-bodied, powerful, rich, but with silky tannins and loads of glycerin. This could turn out to be one of the all-time great wines released by this partnership and should continue to drink well for another two decades. (Note: The 2003 was tasted and reviewed by Robert Parker.)Almaviva is a partnership of Bordeaux first-growth Chateau Mouton-Rothschild and Concha y Toro. Made in the style of top of the line Pauillac, the blend is typically 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22-23% Carmenere (a very close relative of Merlot), and 4-5% Cabernet Franc. It spends 18 months in new French oak and is bottled unfined and unfiltered."
FRANCE - BORDEAUX
1989 Angelus Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $279.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 1997, 96 points: "This chateau has been turning out such spectacular wines that it is not surprising it was elevated in the recent reclassification of St.-Emilion. Any Bordeaux lover would be thrilled to have either of the 1989 or 1990 in his or her cellar. Both wines reveal an opaque purple color, with the 1990 slightly more inky. Both wines are also exceptionally endowed, backward, rich, full-bodied, and crammed with fruit. The 1989 possesses a huge finish, with more noticeable tannin than in the 1990. Picking a favorite between these two fabulous examples of their respective vintages is - for me - presently impossible. I will probably end up drinking the 1990 before the 1989, but both wines are 25-30-year wines, with the 1989 possibly reaching full maturity in 5-6 years, and the 1990 needing several more years of cellaring."
2000 Angelus Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $209.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 96 points: "...this dense purple-colored wine has an extravagantly ripe, concentrated style. The 2000 (in a new engraved bottle) offers up aromas of blackberry liqueur and vintage port. As the wine sits in the glass, graphite, wet stones, smoke, barbecue spices, and olives also make an appearance. It unfolds on the palate in layers, is full-bodied, big and rich yet incredibly poised, well-balanced, and pure..."
2001 Ausone Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $799.99
Wine Advocate, Jun 2004, 98 points: "...The "wine of the vintage," this inky/purple-colored 2001 boasts a provocative, floral perfume of crushed stones, raspberries, blackberries, creme de cassis, licorice, and smoke. What makes it so sensational are the layers of flavor and nuances that unfold as the wine sits in the glass as well as on the palate. This is an extraordinarily intense effort, but remarkably elegant and well-balanced. It ideally needs another decade of cellaring; it should last for 4-5 decades!..."
1982 Branaire-Ducru Bordeaux Blend 1500ml - $319.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2000, 90 points: "This is an elegant 1982, with blueberry, raspberry, mineral, and spicy oak aromas in the moderately intense, polite bouquet. The color is a healthy dark ruby with no lightening or amber. The wine exhibits firmness in the mouth as well as good flesh, a sweet, ripe entry, medium body, and impressive elegance and length. Not a blockbuster such as Gruaud-Larose, Leoville-Las-Cases, Leoville-Barton, and Leoville-Poyferre, this youthful, vibrant 1982 is a model of symmetry and finesse. Anticipated maturity: now-2015."
2000 Branaire-Ducru Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $51.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 93 points: "...notes of graphite, plum, raspberry, and blueberry fruit in that distinctive Branaire style...superb purity, rich, medium to full-bodied flavors, with loads of sweetness, some subtle toasty oak, and strength and richness that builds incrementally on the palate. A top-flight Branaire, this is the finest wine made at this property since the 1996 and 1982..."
1983 Chateau Palmer Bordeaux Blend 3000ml - $1,799.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 1998, 97 points: "One of the superb wines of the vintage, the 1983 Palmer continues to display a saturated purple/garnet color, and an intense perfume of jammy black fruits, smoked meats, flowers, cedar, and Asian spices. Super-concentrated, powerful, and full-bodied, this huge, unctuously textured wine is approaching its plateau of maturity. Because of the high Merlot content it can easily be drunk now, yet promises to last for another 20-25 years. I remain convinced that the 1983 will be the most powerful Palmer since the compelling 1961. Last tasted 9/97"
2000 Chateau Palmer Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $199.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 96 points: "This has turned out to be a prodigious Palmer...offers up sexy, full-bodied, almost masculine notes of roasted meats, blackberries, and creme de cassis intermixed with notions of toast, smoke, and camphor...The wine is opulent, rich, and full-bodied, with tannin that has become sweeter with age. Its best showing yet, most importantly, has been from bottle. This is a great Palmer that should rival the best of recent vintages, which have all been stunning..."
1985 Cos d'Estournel Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $129.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 1998, 93 points: "The 1985 from cask could have been a lighter version of the 1982 and 1953 vintages. Forward, with a fabulously scented bouquet of pain grille and concentrated red and black fruits (especially black cherries), it is rich, lush, long, and medium to full-bodied. Very fragrant, with gobs of sweet black fruits, minerals, and spice in both its flavors and aromatics, this is one of the most forward wines from Cos."
1982 Ducru Beaucaillou Bordeaux Blend 3000ml - $1,199.99
Wine Advocate, Jun 2000, 94 points: "A wine of extraordinary aromatic complexity and finesse, this sweet effort possesses a dark ruby color with a pink rim. Once past the gloriously complex aromatics (blueberries, black currants, minerals, and underbrush), the wine reveals terrific fruit intensity, excellent harmony, medium body, sweet tannin, and a long finish. This superb, elegant 1982..."
1985 Ducru Beaucaillou Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $139.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 1998, 92 points: "For sheer elegance, charm, and finesse, the 1985 Ducru-Beaucaillou has it all. The wine is close to full maturity, yet retains a vibrancy and youthfulness that is unusual for a 1985. The generous flavors are soft, but not flabby. The wine possesses outstanding concentration yet is elegant and refreshing. This is a beautifully knit, harmonious Ducru."
1996 Ducru Beaucaillou Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $144.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 1999, 96 points: "I tasted the 1996 Ducru Beaucaillou on four separate occasions from bottle in January. The 1996 is long, with a deep mid-palate. It also reveals tannin in the finish. This wine is remarkable. It is muscular, concentrated, and classic. Bottled in late June, 1998, it exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color, as well as a knock-out nose of minerals, licorice, cassis, and an unmistakable lead pencil smell that I often associate with top vintages of Lafite-Rothschild. It is sweet and full-bodied, yet unbelievably rich with no sense of heaviness or flabbiness. The wine possesses high tannin, but it is extremely ripe, and the sweetness of the black currant, spice-tinged Cabernet Sauvignon fruit is pronounced. This profound, backward Ducru-Beaucaillou is a must purchase."
1999 Ducru Beaucaillou Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $64.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2002, 91 points: "The deep purple-colored 1999 Ducru Beaucaillou, which represents 60% of the crop, offers aromas of crushed stones, raspberry liqueur, and black currants. This sweet, pure, and harmonious wine possesses elegance, finesse, and multiple nuances rather than power, concentration, and structure. This is Bordeaux at its finest."
2000 Ducru Beaucaillou Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $119.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 94 points: "Floral notes intermixed with raspberries, black currants, minerals, and a hint of new oak emerge from the dense purple-colored 2000 Ducru-Beaucaillou. The wine is sweet, dense, and medium to full-bodied, with undeniable elegance and finesse as well as a finish that lasts for 45+ seconds. A wine of remarkable symmetry, balance, elegance, and minerality, it is the Lafite-Rothschild of St.-Julien,."
2000 Evangile, L' Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $219.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 96 points: "...the thick, unctuous, saturated purple color is followed by scents of blueberries, blackberries, truffles, acacia flowers, tar, and graphite. Full-bodied, with tremendous opulence, intensity, and purity as well as silky tannin and a long, powerful, concentrated finish, with a hint of cocoa/chocolate..."
2000 Figeac Bordeaux Blend 375ml - $49.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 93 points: "...A profound effort, the surprisingly full-bodied 2000 Figeac has an opaque purple color accompanied by a terrific bouquet of camphor, graphite, black currants, licorice, and smoked herbs. With well-balanced, powerful tannin, concentration, and pinpoint precision, finesse, and purity, this expressive as well as textured effort...This is undeniably the estate's finest effort since 1996."
2000 Figeac Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $99.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 93 points: "...A profound effort, the surprisingly full-bodied 2000 Figeac has an opaque purple color accompanied by a terrific bouquet of camphor, graphite, black currants, licorice, and smoked herbs. With well-balanced, powerful tannin, concentration, and pinpoint precision, finesse, and purity, this expressive as well as textured effort...This is undeniably the estate's finest effort since 1996."
1990 Leoville-Barton Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $129.99
Wine Advocate, Feb 1997, 92 points: "...aromas of earth, spicy fruit, and wood. The wine is full-bodied, powerful, and loaded with extract and glycerin... also revealing formidable quantities of tannin..."
2000 Leoville-Barton Bordeaux Blend 375ml - $79.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 96 points: "Absolutely spectacular from bottle, but frightfully closed and backward, with massive power and structure, the saturated purple-colored 2000 Leoville Barton is one of the greatest wines ever made at this estate. The wine has smoky, earthy notes intermixed with graphite, camphor, damp earth, jammy cassis, cedar, and a hint of mushroom. Enormous, even monstrous in the mouth, with tremendous extraction, broodingly backward, dense flavors, and copious tannins, this should prove to be one of the longest-lived wines of the vintage and one of the most compelling Leoville Bartons ever made..."
2000 Leoville-Barton Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $149.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 96 points: "Absolutely spectacular from bottle, but frightfully closed and backward, with massive power and structure, the saturated purple-colored 2000 Leoville Barton is one of the greatest wines ever made at this estate. 1996 Leoville-Las Cases Bordeaux Blend 375ml - $129.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 1999, 98 points: "...one of the great modern day wines of Bordeaux. This wine's hallmark remains a sur-maturite (over-ripeness) of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. Yet the wine has retained its intrinsic classicism, symmetry, and profound potential for complexity and elegance...a spectacular nose of cassis, cherry liqueur, pain grille, and minerals. It is powerful and rich on the attack, with beautifully integrated tannin, massive concentration, yet no hint of heaviness or disjointedness. As this wine sits in the glass it grows in stature and richness. It is a remarkable, seamless, palate-staining, and extraordinarily elegant wine - the quintessential St.-Julien..."
1996 Leoville-Las Cases Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $249.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 1999, 98 points: "...one of the great modern day wines of Bordeaux. This wine's hallmark remains a sur-maturite (over-ripeness) of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. 1998 Leoville-Las Cases Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $99.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2001, 93 points: "The 1998 has turned out to be one of the vintage's superb Medocs. It boasts an opaque black/purple color as well as a classic Leoville Las Cases display of lead pencil, gorgeously pure black raspberries and cherries, smoke, and graphite. A broad yet focused entry on the palate reveals firm tannin, medium to full body, superb concentration and purity, as well as a totally symmetrical mouthfeel..."
1999 Leoville-Las Cases Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $89.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2002, 91 points: "...classic aromas of vanilla, black cherries, and currants mixed with subtle toasty oak. The wine is medium-bodied with sweet tannin, yet it remains young, backward, and unevolved (unusual for a 1999). Its extraordinary purity and overall harmony give it a character all its own. This excellent Las Cases..."
2000 Leoville-Las Cases Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $349.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2003, 99 points: "This wine has put on weight and, as impressive as it was from cask, it is even more brilliant from bottle. Only 35% of the crop made it into the 2000 Leoville Las Cases, a blend of 76.8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14.4% Merlot, and 8.8% Cabernet Franc. The wine is truly profound, with an opaque purple color and a tight but promising nose of vanilla, sweet cherry liqueur, black currants, and licorice in a dense, full-bodied, almost painfully rich, intense style with no hard edges. This seamless classic builds in the mouth, with a finish that lasts over 60 seconds. Still primary, yet extraordinarily pure, this compelling wine, which continues to build flavor intensity and exhibit additional layers of texture, is a tour de force in winemaking and certainly one of the great Leoville Las Cases. In another sense, it symbolizes / pays homage to proprietor Michel Delon, who passed away in 2000. Michel has been succeeded by his son, Jean-Hubert, another perfectionist."
Wine Spectator, Mar 2003, 100 points: "Absolutely fantastic. This is one of the most exciting young reds I have tasted in a long, long time. It shows intense aromas of berries, currants and minerals, with hints of mint. Full-bodied and packed with fruit and tannins, its long finish is refined and silky. A benchmark for the vintage. Las Cases has always wanted to make first-growth quality in a top notch vintage, and it certainly did in 2000."
2000 Lynch Bages Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $129.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 95 points: "An utterly profound Lynch-Bages, this wine continues to remind me of a hypothetical blend of the 1990 and 1989. Interestingly, when I asked Jean-Michel Cazes to rank his top four vintages of Lynch-Bages, he ranked the 1989 first, followed by three vintages that he said were essentially equivalent in quality - 1990, 1996, and 2000. The 2000 Lynch-Bages exhibits a dense purple color, loads of glycerin and extract, big, muscular, sweet creme de cassis notes, with hints of new saddle leather, earth, and tobacco leaf. The 2000 is forceful yet plush, with a thick, juicy, succulent mid-palate, ripe tannin, and a long, layered finish. I know it will be tempting to pull corks on this wine in its youth, but it really will not hit its stride for 7-10 years and will last for at least 25."
2000 Magrez Fombrauge Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $299.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2003, 98 points: "This is sheer nectar of the vine from proprietor Bernard Magrez's Chateau Fombrauge. One of the vintage's superstars, this prodigious effort continues to put on weight and richness. From the bottle, it may be even more impressive than it was from cask. An unctuously-textured blockbuster, with a wealth of fruit, and a sumptuous bouquet of spring flowers, espresso, blackberry liqueur, minerals, and toasty oak, it is full-bodied and seamless with extraordinary intensity, purity, and symmetry. It is rare to find a wine this fat and concentrated, particularly from Bordeaux. As it sat in the glass, an intense note of graphite emerged, but the oak (it was aged and went through malolactic in 100% new oak) has nearly disappeared! Where did it go?"
1999 Margaux, Chateau Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $199.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2002, 94 points: "...complex aromatics. This surprisingly charming and round offering is reminiscent of a vintage such as 1985. Although neither a blockbuster nor a heavyweight, it grows in the mouth revealing tremendous length as well as purity. Administrator Paul Pontallier prefers it to the more austere 1998, as do I. This is an archetypical Chateau Margaux of richness, finesse, balance, and symmetry. It can be drunk young, but promises to age nicely for two decades..."
2000 Monbousquet Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $84.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2000, 95 points: "...bottled unfined and unfiltered, it exemplifies proprietor Perse's enormous efforts. Black and blue to the rim, this wine represents the essence of this terroir. Its saturated black/purple color is accompanied by extraordinary aromatics of sweet blackberries, chocolate, coffee, incense, new saddle leather, and vanilla. Remarkable intensity, lively acidity, and abundant tannin provide definition and grip. This is the most intense, muscular, and "biggest" Monbousquet made to date..."
1998 Mouton-Rothschild Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $219.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2001, 96 points: "...an extremely powerful, super-concentrated wine offering notes of roasted espresso, creme de cassis, smoke, new saddle leather, graphite, and licorice. It is massive, with awesome concentration, mouth-searing tannin levels, and a saturated flavor profile that grips the mouth with considerable intensity..."
2000 Mouton-Rothschild Bordeaux Blend 1500ml - $1,499.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 97 points: "...the wine offers a saturated ruby/purple color in addition to reticent but promising aromas of toast, coffee, licorice, creme de cassis, and roasted nuts. Dense, chewy, and backward, with tremendous purity and density in addition to obvious toasty oak, it is full-bodied, powerful, tannic, and backward...."
1999 Pavie Bordeaux Blend 375ml - $69.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2002, 95 points: "The 1999 Pavie is a candidate for "wine of the vintage". It boasts an opaque ruby/purple color in addition to gorgeous aromas of crushed minerals, smoke, licorice, cherry liqueur, and black currants. The wine is exceptionally pure and multilayered, with stunning texture and overall balance. The tannin level suggests 3-4 years of cellaring is warranted; it should age gracefully for 25+ years..."
2000 Pavie Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $399.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 100 points: "...unquestionably one of the most monumental wines Bordeaux has ever produced. Bottled in March, 2003, about nine months later than other 2000s, the color is an opaque purple, and the bouquet offers up notes of liquid minerals, blackberries, cherries, and cassis intermixed with spice box, cedar, and white flowers. On the palate, it exhibits a massive display of richness and extract, yet with pinpoint delineation and vibrancy as well as a 60+ second finish, this is the kind of phenomenal wine that Perse's critics were afraid he might produce - a no-compromise, immortal wonder that represents the essence of one of Bordeaux's greatest terroirs. Life is too short not to own and consume the 2000 Pavie..."
2000 Pavie-Decesse Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $149.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 96 points: "...This wine, for about one-half the price of Pavie, is well-worth checking out ... to state it mildly! A brilliant effort, the wine has an opaque bluish/purple color and a gorgeous nose of sweet blueberries, blackberries, charcoal, and mineral. The wine is full-bodied, rich, with striking purity, fabulous delineation, immense body and extract, and sweet but high levels of tannin in the finish, which goes on for nearly one minute. This is undoubtedly the greatest Pavie Decesse ever produced and a modern-day Bordeaux legend..."
1986 Pichon-Longueville Baron Bordeaux Blend 1500ml - $549.99
Wine Spectator, May 1991, 97 points: "Amazingly elegant and complex featuring rich cedar, currant, black cherry and cassis notes, with grace, harmony and the kind of structure that should ensure it will age beautifully until the turn of the century. The aftertaste echoes cherry flavors."
1989 Pichon-Longueville Baron Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $199.99
Wine Spectator, Feb 2005, 98 points: "Gorgeous aromas of currants, berries and minerals. Full-bodied, with juicy tannins and a long, long fininsh. Same as ever..."
2000 Pichon-Longueville Baron Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $119.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 96 points: "...offers up notes of barbecue spices intermixed with new saddle leather, creme de cassis, melted licorice, creosote, and a hint of vanilla. The wine is full-bodied, tremendously concentrated, with sweet tannin and a seamless finish that goes on for close to one minute. This wine has great purity, tremendous texture, and fabulous upside potential..."
1983 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Bordeaux Blend 1500ml - $379.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 1998, 94 points: "A stunning wine, Pichon-Lalande's 1983 has been gorgeous to drink for a number of years. It is one of the finest 1983s, especially for a northern Medoc. The color remains a dark ruby/purple, with slight lightening at the edge. The knock-out nose of roasted herbs, sweet, jammy black currants, and pain grille is followed by a full-bodied, gorgeously concentrated and well-proportioned wine with low acidity, plenty of glycerin, and a savory, highly extracted, fleshy mouthfeel. This has always been one of the stars of the vintage."
1996 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Bordeaux Blend 375ml - $79.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 1999, 96 points: "The 1996 Pichon-Lalande is just as awesome from bottle as it was from multiple cask tastings. For Pichon-Lalande, the percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon is atypically high. This wine normally contains 35-50% Merlot in the blend, but the 1996 is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. Only 50% of the estate's production made it into the grand vin. The color is a saturated ruby/purple. The nose suggests sweet, nearly overripe Cabernet Sauvignon, with its blueberry/blackberry/cassis scents intermixed with high quality, subtle, toasty new oak. Deep and full-bodied, with fabulous concentration and a sweet, opulent texture, this wine was singing in full harmony when I tasted it in January. Given the wine's abnormally high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, I would suspect it will close down. It possesses plenty of tannin, but the wine's overwhelming fruit richness dominates its personality."
1996 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $149.99

2000 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $159.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 97 points: "...a singular/distinctive yet possibly controversial aromatic smorgasbord existing of creme de cassis, vanilla, and violets, but also tapenade and tree bark...a wine of extraordinary density, opulence, great presence, and richness. As the 2000 sits in the glass, notes of lavender and melted licorice emerge along with the distinctive tapenade aromas interwoven with creme de cassis, espresso roast, and cedar. The wine is full-bodied, with extraordinary purity and a tremendous texture. I suspect this wine will be relatively approachable young but evolve effortlessly. This is a dramatic, almost flamboyant style that is not classic Pauillac in one sense, but a classic wine..."
2000 Troplong-Mondot Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $99.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 95 points: "Combining remarkable elegance allied to considerable power and depth...Its saturated purple color is followed by aromas of ink, creme de cassis, graphite, and toasty oak. Full-bodied and powerful, with excellent balance, this is a wine of extraordinary richness and massiveness yet surreal freshness as well as vibrancy. The finish lasts for over 45 seconds and nearly conceals some hefty tannins. With fabulous definition, richness, and intensity, this is a compelling 2000..."
2000 Vieux Chateau Certan Bordeaux Blend 750ml - $149.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2003, 95 points: "...reveals notes of oak, tapenade, blackberries, spice box, licorice, and vanilla. Deep, medium to full-bodied, and powerful, with superb purity, low acidity, and high tannin..."

1998 Chapoutier Hermitage Vin de Paille Marsanne 375ml - $99.99
Wine Advocate, Oct 1999, 96 - 98 points: "Nectar lovers will be amazed by the richness of this wine...a texture resembling molasses. Despite being aged in 100% new oak, no wood is discernible. Its astonishing white truffle-scented nose includes notions of coffee, marmalade, and creme brulee. Extraordinarily dense and thick, with surprisingly good underlying acidity, this is a remarkable wine..."

1998 Arnaldo Caprai Sagrantino di Montefalco 25 Anni 750ml - $84.99
Wine Spectator, Mar 2002, 92 points: "Big, juicy red (almost raw), with loads of berry and toasted oak. Full-bodied and chewy, with lots of oak and fruit. A wine with extract, needing time in the bottle. Best after 2004. 2,500 cases made. JS"
2000 Arnaldo Caprai Sagrantino di Montefalco 25 Anni 750ml - $94.99
Wine Advocate, Apr 2004, 97 points: "The 2000 Montefalco 25 Anni simply multiplies all the elements exponentially with room-filling aromas of sweet berry fruit and perfectly integrated oak and a mouth-coating cascade of ripe fruit, powerful, dense, and sensual tannins in a swelling flow of unrelieved pleasure. I would be very surprised if this wine did not last another two decades."

1997 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Santo Stefano Nebbiolo 750ml - $109.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2001, 93 points: "The classic 1997 Barbaresco Santo Stefano is evolved and flamboyant. A medium ruby/garnet color with an amber edge is followed by a sweet perfume of black cherries, tobacco, leather, spice box, licorice, and tar. Full-bodied, with a creamy texture, superb concentration, and an exquisite finish, it can be drunk now or cellared for 15+ years."
1998 Clerico, Domenico Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra Nebbiolo 750ml - $189.99
Wine Spectator, Nov 2002, 99 points: "Breathtaking. Big and powerful, with loads of plum, blackberry, raisin and meat aromas. Full-bodied, with big, luscious tannins and masses of fruit on the palate. Long and rich. Seductive."
1998 Luigi Pira Barolo Marenca Nebbiolo 750ml - $64.99
Wine Spectator, Nov 2002, 87 points: "Aromas of ripe fruit, leather and polish. Full-bodied, with big, polished tannins and a long, caressing finish. Tight and powerful. Slightly austere now."

1997 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova Sangiovese Grosso 750ml - $89.99
Wine Spectator, Jun 2002, 95 points: "Like finely meshed cashmere. Exotic aromas of plums, incense and Indian spices. Full-bodied, with very fine tannins and a long, caressing, silky aftertaste. A wine with loads of finesse..."

2000 Caprai, Arnaldo Montefalco Sagrantino Collepiano 750ml - $49.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2004, 93 points: "The 2000 Montefalco Sagrantino Collepiano is, in theory, the regular bottling, but the wine makes a joke of the term. A deep ruby red, intense, penetrating, and expansive on the nose with potent raspberry/ red currant fruit, richly spiced by the oak, its deep, concentrated, and powerful flavors, almost chewy in their richness but velvety in their texture, give an exceptional continuity and length.. Drink: 2006-2018. One of the greatest pleasures in my professional life over the past fifteen years has been the discovery of the wines of Marco Caprai and, through him, the tremendous potential of Sagrantino, at the time a totally unknown grape which no one, even in the wildest stretch of his imagination, could have ever considered a variety capable of giving some of Italy's greatest wines. Some of Italy's most important professionals work here, Leonardo Valenti of the University of Milan in the vineyards, Attilio Pagli in the cellars, but, in the last analysis, it is the owner who counts, the man - a very young one at the time who decided he wanted to make great wine and put the capital and energy to work to realize the dream."

2004 Aubert Chardonnay Lauren Vineyard 750ml - $134.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2006, 97 points: "A superb effort, the 2004 Chardonnay Lauren Vineyard exhibits huge notes of lemon oil, nectarines, quince, citrus blossoms, and crushed rocks/minerals. This big, rich, full-bodied Chardonnay boasts stunning acidity, a superb texture, and an amazing finish. This Chardonnay tends to be aged in 100% new oak (which is totally concealed) and is bottled without fining or filtration. Consequently, if it has just been shipped or moved, it can reveal a slight haze."
2005 Aubert Chardonnay Lauren Vineyard 750ml - $109.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2006, 95 - 97 points: "A blockbuster, the light straw/gold/green-hued 2005 Chardonnay Lauren Vineyard exhibits huge aromatics of spring flowers, white currants, peaches, honeysuckle, and smoked nuts. Enormous body, great acidity, superb palate penetration, and a savory vibrancy suggest this stunning Chardonnay will provide immense pleasure over the next decade or more."
2005 Aubert Chardonnay Quarry Vineyard 750ml - $134.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2006, 94 - 96 points: "The 2005 Chardonnay Quarry Vineyard is similar to its 2004 counterpart, but the acids seem even fresher, and the wine more vibrant and unevolved. There's a greenish hue to its light straw color. Citrus oil, crushed rock, marmalade, gun flint, and quince notes are found in this full-bodied, gorgeously rich, intense wine."
2005 Aubert Chardonnay Reuling Vineyard 750ml - $129.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2006, 95 - 97 points: "Nearly perfect, the 2005 Chardonnay Reuling Vineyard boasts fabulous intensity, virtually perfect balance, and remarkable notes of liquid stones intermixed with orange marmalade, honeysuckle, white peaches, and a touch of spice. This extraordinary cuvee, fashioned from a suitcase Montrachet clone, should age for a decade or more."
2003 Aubert Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard 750ml - $139.99
Wine Advocate, Feb 2005, 95 points: "...crisp acidity along with dramatic tropical fruits intermixed with minerals, roasted hazelnuts, and bread dough characteristics. A huge, mouthfilling Chardonnay with laser-like focus, it boasts amazing delineation for such a concentrated wine. I can only think of one or two other California producers who made anything close to the quality of this riveting Chardonnay in 2003...Score range:95-97"
2004 Aubert Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard 750ml - $129.99
Wine Advocate, Dec 2005, 94 - 96 points: "Once again, tropical fruit, tangerine oil, and pineapple notes as well as a full-bodied force and opulence characterize the 2004 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard, a cool climate site that has a long hang time and produces wines with honeyed, exotic components. It's Chardonnay pushed to the limit, but Mark Aubert is smart enough to rein it in before going over the top. There is crisp underlying acidity as well as a blockbuster finish."
2005 Aubert Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard 750ml - $99.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2006, 94 - 96 points: "Revealing obvious tropical fruit in its exotic, hedonistic personality, the 2005 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard is the least intellectual wine of this group. Nevertheless, there is plenty going on in this brioche, hazelnut, smoke, and honeyed citrus-filled Chardonnay. It is a gorgeously tart, well-defined, full-bodied white that will drink well for 5-7 years."
2005 Brewer-Clifton Pinot Noir Ashley's Vineyard 750ml - $44.99
2002 Hourglass Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml - $244.99
Wine Advocate, Feb 2005, 98 points: "The majestic 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon possesses the same characteristics as the 2001, just more of them. Boasting more perfume, a bigger attack and mid-palate as well as greater length and intensity, this beautiful Cabernet reveals notes of camphor intermixed with black currants, cherries, licorice, cedar, and minerals. Full-bodied and opulent with a structured finish, it is accessible now because of its wealth of fruit and concentration, but it should easily evolve for 15 or more years. The good news is there are 800 cases of this wine."
2003 Hourglass Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml - $89.99
Stephen Tanzer, Jun 2006, 90 points: "Good ruby-red color. Exotic, very ripe aromas of blackcurrant, spices, mint and roasted oak; slightly porty. Then fat, sweet and round in the mouth, gushing with dark berry, black licorice and eucalyptus flavor. Finishes long and sweet, with a bit of acidity yet to be integrated. 90 points"
2005 J Rochioli Chardonnay River Block 750ml - $94.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2006, 95 points: "The 2005 Chardonnay River Block, produced from the old Wente and Hanzell clones, reveals scents of buttered citrus, crushed rocks, white currants, peaches, and tropical fruits. Full-bodied with zesty acidity (a characteristic of the vintage) as well as fabulous concentration and length, it can be enjoyed over the next 7-8 years. Kudos to Tom Rochioli, one of the wine world's great guys who, without any fanfare, continues to turn out world-class wines of extraordinary aromatic and flavor dimensions."
2005 J Rochioli Chardonnay South River Vineyard 750ml - $89.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2006, 94 points: "Aromas of honeysuckle, lemon oil, and white peach along with superb minerality are found in the 2005 Chardonnay South River Vineyard. With fabulous texture, a flinty character, and great generosity, richness, purity, and length, it should drink well for 5-7 years. Kudos to Tom Rochioli, one of the wine world's great guys who, without any fanfare, continues to turn out world-class wines of extraordinary aromatic and flavor dimensions."
2003 J Rochioli Pinot Noir Three Corner Vineyard 750ml - $169.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2005, 93 - 95 points: "Raspberry, sassafras, forest floor, and smoky toasty characteristics emerge from the aromas and flavors of the 2003 Pinot Noir Three Corner Vineyard (only 75 cases produced). It's a shame there is not more of this sweetheart."
2002 Kistler Chardonnay Cuvee Cathleen 750ml - $129.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2003, 92 - 96 points: "The 2002 Chardonnay Cuvee Cathleen appeared more subdued than the Vine Hill and Kistler. I doubt that is actually the case, but that is the way it tasted. Nevertheless, you can serve me this wine any time, any day ... it's that good. Powerful and rich, with a striking minerality, it comes across like a Coche Dury Corton-Charlemagne that's been ratcheted up a few levels. Extremely well-delineated, but still playing it close to the vest, it is a spectacular Chardonnay that should hit its peak in 2 years, and last for a decade."
2004 Kongsgaard Chardonnay 750ml - $109.99
Wine Advocate, Dec 2005, 94 - 96 points: "The 2004 Chardonnay, which has not had a touch of SO2 (it was already 13 months old when I tasted it), exhibits notes of honeyed orange rind, caramel, and liqueur of rocks along with wonderful full-bodied opulence, and exquisite definition and richness. This sensational 2004 looks to be even better than the 2003."
2004 Kongsgaard Chardonnay The Judge 750ml - $319.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2006, 98 points: "The 2004 Chardonnay The Judge is about as fine a Chardonnay as one is likely to find in the world. The wine, as one might expect, is from the same vineyard and simply the most concentrated barrels of what is already a very concentrated wine. It just has more of everything when compared to the regular 2004 Chardonnay, but I think the most striking thing is that, from what I can tell, he is looking for even more intense minerality in the wine, and this wine certainly offers it in spades. It should age for up to a decade."
2003 Kongsgaard Syrah 750ml - $99.99
Stephen Tanzer, May 2005, 91 - 93 points: "($150; from the Q block of Hudson Vineyard, featuring lighter, volcanic soil) Good medium ruby. Complex, Hermitage-like aromas of black fruits, smoked meat and black pepper, with a hint of reduction. Sweet and dense but juicy and penetrating, with the balance and tannic structure to develop in bottle for a decade of more. Very well balanced but youthfully tight syrah, finishing with building tannins."
2001 Martinelli Pinot Noir Blue Slide Ridge 750ml - $149.99
Wine Advocate, Dec 2003, 93 points: "The flamboyant, exotic 2001 Pinot Noir Blue Slide Ridge boasts an open-knit bouquet of black raspberry liqueur intermixed with blueberries, flint, and lilacs. Dense, rich, and medium to full-bodied, it is an intellectual as well as hedonistic turn-on..."
2002 Martinelli Pinot Noir Blue Slide Ridge 750ml - $219.99
Wine Advocate, Feb 2005, 95 points: "...a notable effort. It is dark ruby/plum in color, with elegant floral, DRC-like notes of raspberries, forest floor, and violets. Medium to full-bodied, broad, fleshy, complex, and provocative, this is truly a grand cru Burgundy-styled wine..."
2003 Martinelli Pinot Noir Blue Slide Ridge 750ml - $124.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2005, 92 points: "Complex forest floor notes along with violets, raspberries, cola, and jammy cherry and currant notes jump from the fabulous bouquet of the 2003 Pinot Noir Blue Slide Ridge. Deep ruby-colored, there is no disappointment following the stunning aromatics when the wine hits the palate. There is plenty of tannin, but it is generally well-concealed by extravagant levels of fruit, body, and concentration. It is a noble expression of one of northern California's great Pinot Noir vineyards."
2002 Martinelli Pinot Noir Bondi Home Ranch Water Trough Vineyard 750ml - $119.99
Wine Advocate, Feb 2005, 90 points: "Tart acidity and a crisp, elegant personality, with more smoky, herbal notes and a decidedly cool climate style characterizes the 2002 Pinot Noir Bondi Home Ranch Water Trough Vineyard. This wine is well-made, but a completely different expression of Pinot Noir from a cooler area. It is remarkable how the 2002 is so different from the explosive 2003."
2002 Martinelli Pinot Noir Moonshine Ranch 750ml - $119.99
Wine Spectator, Jun 2004, 93 points: "Delicious from the first sip, this is a bold, ripe, richly flavored wine, with a flash of toasty oak preceding a fleshy core of ripe plum, blackberry and raspberry flavors. Shows fine structure on the finish, with the fruit pushing past the tannins."
2002 Martinelli Pinot Noir Seven Mules 750ml - $69.99
Wine Advocate, Feb 2005, 91 points: "Strawberry and cherry jam in addition to some flowers and subtle background oak make an impression in the spicy, rich..."
2003 Martinelli Pinot Noir Seven Mules 750ml - $79.99
Wine Advocate, Feb 2005, 89 points: "...an elegant, low-key, restrained, feminine, shy style of Pinot Noir... exhibits nice pomegranate and currant notes, a somewhat understated personality, and a clean, crisp finish..."
2002 Martinelli Pinot Noir Three Sisters Vineyard 750ml - $129.99
2000 Martinelli Zinfandel Giuseppe & Luisa 750ml - $89.99
2002 Martinelli Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard 750ml - $174.99
Wine Advocate, Feb 2005, 95 points: "The 2002 Jackass Hill Zinfandel might be too much of a good thing. One-hundred sixty-five cases of 17.5% alcohol make it certainly perhaps the highest alcohol ever achieved in a Martinelli Zinfandel, and it is a legitimate question if this is still "table wine." The remarkable thing is that they get the fermentation to finish, and the wine is completely dry with no residual sugar. An extraordinary nose of maple syrup, sassafras, figs, smoke, roasted meats, mincemeat, and black cherries jump from the glass of this layered, full-throttle, dense, powerful, potent wine. I would opt for drinking it during its first decade of life to take advantage of the fruit, but expect more than a glass to knock you "side-ways.""
2004 Martinelli Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard 750ml - $99.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2006, 93 points: "Martinelli's Zindfandel is a rich, high-octane wine of considerable intensity, fragrance, and richness. The 2004 Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard (690 cases) offers copious quantities of espresso roast, overripe figs, coffee, cola, strawberry and cherry jam, a hint of mincemeat and spice box, and a monstrously rich, full-bodied palate that just oozes fruit, glycerin, and alcohol."
2001 Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red Wine Proprietary Blend 750ml - $109.99
Wine Advocate, Dec 2003, 91 points: "Possibly the finest proprietary red since the 1997, the 2001 Proprietary Red is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec that was aged in new Taransaud barrels. It exhibits a dense saturated purple color in addition to a big, sweet nose of road tar, smoke, chocolate, blackberries, and creme de cassis. Like most 2001s, it possesses considerable structure as well as high tannin, real delineation, and a full-bodied, powerful finish..."
2002 Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red Wine Proprietary Blend 750ml - $109.99
Wine Advocate, Feb 2005, 94 points: "...a sexy, hedonistic smorgasbord of smoked herbs, wood embers, melted chocolate, blackberries, cassis, camphor, and toast. This heady, full-bodied, voluptuously textured 2002 is a pedal-to-the-metal, classic Napa Valley red filled with richness, intensity, and purity. It is impossible to ignore or resist. A candidate for "Proprietary Wine of the Vintage"..."
2003 Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red Wine Proprietary Blend 750ml - $89.99
Wine Advocate, Dec 2005, 94 points: "The 2003 Proprietary Red (86.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, aged in 100% new Taransaud barrels) is a killer. Deep ruby/purple-colored, with a big, smoky, fragrant nose of creme de cassis, smoked meats, plum, and licorice, it boasts great intensity, rich, full-bodied, powerful flavors, decent acidity, moderate tannin, and tremendous persistence. It has put on weight since I tasted it last year out of barrel, and should drink well for 15 or more years."
2002 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml - $79.99
Wine Advocate, Feb 2005, 92 points: "The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon (5,000 cases made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon) is a supple, flamboyant, and more accessible version of the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep ruby/purple-colored, with a classic nose of tobacco leaf, black currant, licorice, and smoke, the wine is medium to full-bodied, has a supple texture, an attractive textural mouthfeel in addition to a plush, heady finish..."
2004 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml - $63.99
Wine Advocate, Dec 2006, 87 points: "Although lighter than previous efforts, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a dark ruby color, medium body, black currant and damp earth characteristics, and a lean finish."
1999 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 750ml - $149.99
Wine Advocate, Aug 2002, 94 points: "The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (900 cases) is closed, revealing remarkably concentrated creme de cassis fruit intermixed with licorice, mineral, and toasty oak aromas and flavors, along with high tannin in the finish. It tastes like an over-sized Bordeaux given its tannin profile, but the huge wealth of fruit, glycerin, and extract are exceptional. Patience will be essential. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2025."
2001 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 750ml - $299.99
Wine Advocate, Feb 2005, 99 points: "A potentially perfect wine, which is in bottle after having spent 30 or so months in a combination of old and new oak...The 2001 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (a 1,300-case blend of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 27 months in oak) offers gorgeously fresh, lively, but super-concentrated fruit. Inky blue/purple to the rim, with a spectacular nose of creme de cassis, licorice, camphor, and a hint of vanilla, this wine is sensationally rich, has remarkable intensity, a multi-dimensional palate, and fabulous concentration and depth...should easily and effortlessly evolve for 20 or more years."
2002 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 750ml - $224.99
Wine Advocate, Feb 2005, 96 points: "...an inky ruby/purple color and a gorgeously sweet nose of creme de cassis and cherries intermixed with some vanilla and spice. The wine is opulent, full-bodied, with an unctuous texture and blockbuster finish with no hard edges. It seems to be on a faster evolutionary track than the 2001, but who's complaining? This is still a 15- to 18-year wine."
2003 Pride Mountain Vineyards Merlot Vintner's Select Mountain Top Vineyard 750ml - $99.99
1998 Pride Mountain Vineyards Reserve Claret Proprietary Blend 750ml - $124.99
Wine Advocate, Jun 2002, 93 points: "...red and black fruit scents intermixed with vanilla, underbrush, and mocha/coffee. It is long and opulently-textured, with low acidity, fabulous fruit, a succulent, expansive mid-palate, and a blockbuster, long finish. This is compelling stuff!..."
1999 Pride Mountain Vineyards Reserve Claret Proprietary Blend 750ml - $219.99
Wine Advocate, Jan 2002, 96 points: "The micro-cuvee (about 200 cases) of 1999 Reserve Claret (two-thirds Merlot and one-third Cabernet Sauvignon) is awesome! This candidate for "wine of the vintage" spent 24 months in both old and new French oak. It boasts an opaque purple color in addition to a sumptuous, sweet bouquet of espresso, blackberries, cassis, maple syrup, and vanilla. It is long, layered, multidimensional, sweet, and thick on the palate, possessing an unctuosity and concentration that must be tasted to be believed. Nevertheless, it is well-balanced and incredibly pure as well as long."
2001 Pride Mountain Vineyards Reserve Claret Proprietary Blend 750ml - $279.99
Wine Advocate, Feb 2005, 99 points: "A potentially perfect wine, which is in bottle after having spent 30 or so months in a combination of old and new oak...The 2001 Reserve Claret, which is a 450-case blend of two-thirds Merlot and one-third Cabernet Sauvignon, is a spectacular wine, offering up a dense purple color and a nose of lead pencil shavings, blackberries, creme de cassis, chocolate, and espresso roast. The wine is full-bodied, opulent, layered, with tremendous purity and persistence on the palate. It is a stunning example of mountain viticulture that can be drunk now, although it is still an adolescent in its evolutionary development and will age for 15-20 years."
2002 Pride Mountain Vineyards Reserve Claret Proprietary Blend 750ml - $239.99
Wine Advocate, Feb 2005, 97 points: "The opaque purple-colored 2002 Reserve Claret reveals more aromatic development than the Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as complexity. It boasts chocolate, blackberry, blueberry, currant, and licorice notes, a voluptuous texture, and a luscious personality..."
2004 Pride Mountain Vineyards Reserve Claret Proprietary Blend 750ml - $149.99
2003 Sea Smoke Cellars Pinot Noir Southing 750ml - $114.99
Wine Spectator, Sep 2005, 92 points: "Intriguing aromas of raspberry, blackberry, anise and sage, a hint of cedary oak folds in too. Intense and firmly tannic, this is the most structured and tannic of the '03 Sea Smoke offerings."
2004 Sea Smoke Cellars Pinot Noir Southing 750ml - $89.99
Wine Spectator, Oct 2006, 93 points: "Tremendous richness, depth and concentration, with a gush of blueberry, wild berry and blackberry fruit that offers intensity, lively acidity and enough tannins to merit short-term cellaring. Drink now through 2011. 2,400 cases made."
2005 Sea Smoke Cellars Pinot Noir Southing 750ml - $89.99
Wine Spectator, Apr 2007, 92 - 94 points: "Pure, rich and concentrated, with supple plum, blackberry and blueberry fruit shaded by pretty toasty oak, ending with a long, concentrated finish that pulls together lots of fruit and flavor."
2005 Sea Smoke Cellars Pinot Noir Ten 750ml - $119.99
Wine Spectator, Apr 2007, 92 - 94 points: "Complex toasty oak and ripe Pinot aromas give this an alluring aroma, with spicy cherry, blueberry and wild berry flavors that are delicate and elegant."
